Since when has statistics been maths? Besides, the probability of something is never 1 or 0, so to call it a mathematical impossibility is a ridiculous comment anyway.

I'm not saying aliens don't exist, but I think that just making some variables infinitely large to come to a 'foregone conclusion' is a rather silly way to think about life...

Uh, statistics has always been a math.

Re: Aliens

I believe that we're not alone. And, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little something like in Star Trek - the first aliens we run into could very possibly be a real life version of Vulcans. Human-like, but with fundamental differences.

Or, it could be something entirely unrecognisable... something with an entirely different chemistry. We're carbon based, right? Well, what about silicone? It's plausible.

What would THAT look like?

Of course silicone based life is possible, just look at Hollywood big_smile

Pat led the passing with 7 assists, and his usual steady defensive play held the opposing first squad to no double-digit point getters. He was heard running down the court screaming "If I can't score, you won't either!"

There's a 50% chance of getting either live or die. Obviously you're more likely to die, but if there are two options there is a 50% chance of getting either. -SH

Re: Aliens

Yep we are carbon based, and yep it is pretty likely that "other" life types would be out there.  Mentioning anything about "green" or "antennas" just means you have been conditioned by mass media (don't take offense, we are all strongly conditioned in that way).  I think we are alone in our Galaxy for sure though.  The rest of the universe (as explained in that gif) is simply too infinite to not have some bacteria growing somewhere smile

Re: Aliens

With near infinite possibilities, isn't it possible, perhaps likely, that those green things with antennas exist? tongue

In a manner of thinking, yes exactly.  Anything reasonable you could imagine would have an equally likely (although microscopic) chance of existing.  I'm in sociology right now, so I just find it interesting that the media shapes our ideas about such things in a rather uniform way.

Re: Aliens

Transformers was boring. They didn't even have Optimus fight the bloody fallen...he killed him in a second (although chances are he will come back tolife next time) they decided to have a few transformers that nobody has ever heard of have a mediocre fight scene instead.

Besides that whole the key is in your personal growth crap is the biggest load of shit ever...

Ummm actual good movies this year include:
Up
Inglorious Basterds
Rev Road
The Wrestler
Slumdog
Gran Torino...

plus plenty of great films I have not seen this year, I find it pretty amazing that the one movie that comes to mind that could possibly compete with District 9 is Transformers. ( I dont know how good district 9 was, but I doubt it could compete with some of those films listed before anyway)
