S14 Bird "Literal MVP" - discussion thread

This is based on a discussion that's occurring within the Jordan forum ( http://www.courtrivals.com/forums/viewt … 71&p=4 ).  I'd like to think that it could be a valuable resource to get some discussion going, that may (or may not) impact the MVP award.
In no way will this be actually binding, I can't really be any clearer on that.  But it will be - at the very least - interesting to measure discussion against the system currently employed.
The wording in this post is largely stolen from bbkaos's initial Jordan thread.

1.  The most important concept here is that we treat the players as actual players (hence the literal part).  No discussion on how or why certain stats are being generated, instead we can pretend the players are really that good tongue
** If you don't understand what's meant, check out Demandred - in Jordan - in season 13 compared to now.  What is the difference?  (Hint, training and sliders are the same....but a different lineup).

2. Strength of schedule matters.  How much it matters is up for debate, but 40ppg in pro B/C is different than 40ppg in pro A.

3. Don't take it personally.  This ought to be self-explanatory.

4. Quality stats only.  Don't bring that weak playground stuff here tongue

So let's find some candidates, and put them in the thread.

What I need is someone (a volunteer) to record daily results of possible candidates (no more than 10 - preferably around 5-6.  See the Jordan thread for how this is working thus far), then others can discuss.
Please either email me, or post here if you're interested.

Excellent. Then as people suggest, and agree upon, players worth watching, you'll be responsible for tracking those players within the thread. Is that ok?

So we say who we think is gonna go close for MVP. If thats what it is then I would say Mr Clutch. About 46 PPG is crazy.

Re: S14 Bird "Literal MVP" - discussion thread

Yeah it is your opinion of who the MVP is, based on treating the players as actually playing, rather than just being functions of their lineup.  So yeah, Mr. Clutch is at the top of my list, along with Ronnie "The Glove" Magsanoc.

Basically you just want to avoid semantics about 1-2 scoring lineups and other manipulations, pretend the players are just that good.

Dude...

He asked you to track and compile the daily stats put up by the candidates that the community comes up with, not to confirm or deny candidacy. That will be taken care of by the discussion itself. You have no veto power.

Re: S14 Bird "Literal MVP" - discussion thread

Axe when you get a chance, let me know if I should add all candidates or filter out some bases on players production numbers?
I ask because you said there will be a limited number allowed. It would clear up some issues that have come up.

For now I will enter anyone mentioned in this thread. smile

Re: S14 Bird "Literal MVP" - discussion thread

Personally, I think 14.5 PPG and 8+ assists per game is damn impressive... on the number 2 team? Yeah... that should be a consideration for MVP. Scoring shouldn't be everything.

the point is that he's an incredible combo guy.  14.5 ppg and 8+ assists per game with .2 tpg is virtually unheard of on cr

If you look at just Pro A (which is all that matters in MVP talks) he is 6th overall. Not bad at all. The top assist guy only gets 1.8 PPG. Has .8 tpg. Good enough for First team, but not as impressive as Magsanoc.

Re: S14 Bird "Literal MVP" - discussion thread

I also think my boy Magsanoc has the best individual game of the season so far:
28 points, 14 assists, 11-13 fg, 6-8 3pt fg, 1 steal, 0 TO

This was a Pro A vs Pro A matchup at that time.

thank you for the props.
My nomination is for my teammate tweety bird becuase i score a lot of points... yes .... but he dishes me the ball so i can score. So he should get some props. He is the leading assister in pro A i believe with just under 11 assist pg
