LOST

Season 6 two hour event starts in about 6 hours. I'm pretty excited for it.

If you missed it, or it has yet to air by you: http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/132.html

Re: LOST

Show blows nuts. How many times can you get lost on a tv show before people get bored of it? Apparently a lot.

Hey, at least I'm not a cubs fan tongue

It's like prison break. How many shows can you honestly put together after the people actually escape prison? Seriously?

Re: LOST

I said the same thing about Prison Break. Hell, they even wanted to change the name of that show.

Though to be fair, they've only really been "lost" twice. (Spoiler: Once on the island, and then again when they were "lost" in time.) The rest of it is just weird happenings on the island and the affects caused by anybody who leaves.

Re: LOST

Ya, it kinda seems like one of those shows that's gone on for so long that they can't think of enough new ideas so they stretch out episodes a lot, like 24 is now.

Re: LOST

Um, you obviously haven't watched lost....the beginning of season two was like that...the writers and producers were lost.  They stopped production, went on hiatus, and rather that destroy what had been a great show, they scripted out the remainder of the story over 5 seasons (it got pushed to 6 because of the writers' strike).  However, the name is still appropriate (unlike Prison Break, though I can't mock that show, as I have never watched it).  Lost has a lot going on, has some very engaging characters, a serial story, and besides a few hiccups has remained really strong over the last few seasons.  As a English teacher and someone fond of politics and history, I really appreciate all of the "little" things they do to draw on literary and actual history to inform the characters and the show.

Clearly I don't watch it anymore lol. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons, then I really felt like they began lengthening the episodes out with lots of pointless dialogue.

Re: LOST

You the man Tesche.  I've come to the conclusion that people will hate on anything remotely popular if they aren't into it.  Lost certainly isn't for everyone, I get that though.  I love all the mythologies they are drawing from as well.  I am a bit worried it will become too "Christian", although there are several other directions they can go with it.

My favorite aspect was always the psychology surrounding each character and their actions/reactions to the events.  Season 1 was probably the strongest in this aspect.  We have a tendency to just say "that guy's a jerk" or "that was dumb" instead of wanting to understand why someone is doing something.  Seeing each character's past in pieces slowly unraveled the "why" for each one of them.

I have to admit though, several of the original great characters are starting to wear on my patience.

Re: LOST

Tesche, you took my argument. The second season of Lost was going in a poor direction. When they decided to put a definite timeline to the show, it really started to pick up. Having an idea, planning it out and NOT dragging it along is why it's been a success. If it was still going, with no end in sight, then it'd probably be in trouble, but they did a smart thing. So if you stopped watching at some point during the 2nd season, I'd encourage you to try and pick it back up. But you really can't say much about the last few seasons if you haven't seen them tongue

Re: LOST

Yeah I've re-watched it all a few times, and there is a huge downward drag on the show from mid season 2 until mid season 3.  Late season 3 and on really starts to get interesting again.  Does anyone else think that Walt makes a triumphant return in season 6?

The producers have said that they want to bring him back, but the fact that he's a kid and his appearance has changed so much is holding them back. Last I heard, they were working on a way around that. However, they do plan on explaining his powers, regardless of whether or not he returns.

Re: LOST

Has anyone heard of the LOST: Missing Pieces miniseries? I just read about it on another forum, and I'm wondering if it's important to the actual plot at all.

Re: LOST

Good, because they certainly went out of their way to set up the fact that he was "special".  I kept thinking he would be the black Jesus to take Jacob's place after he walked into that knife (didn't it seem like he wanted to, or at least was ready to die?)

Re: LOST

I think Jacob just accepts that he can't stop the rival at this point and lets it happen. That or he's going to pull an Obi Wan and everybody's fucked.

Of course he is going to pull an Obi Wan.  Remember what he said as he died, and how mad it make "Locke".

Re: LOST

Or did Jacob foil the plan by "taking control" of the situation.

The problem with Walt is that this season is going to end up set in 2002...or so...I think, maybe not.  You can't make Walt 4'8'' again!  smile  I have no doubts that they'll "finish out his character" in some way.

I'm mainly just upset they decided to run some episodes before the Olympics so it will broken up some this season.  sad

Re: LOST

Yeah I like when it is every single week right through until the end.  I have heard rumors they are going to address the character Libby as well (again, they took a bit of time setting up a very interesting back story for her).

Exactly.  In a literal sense it is those "shadow of the statue people" on the second plane.  In a more interesting way it could be everyone he "touched" in those flashbacks, the people who just set off a bomb to "reset" things.

Re: LOST

I see what you mean.

I haven't put nearly as much thought into the plot as I should have. I honestly only picked up the show this summer (a month or two after Season 5's finale), so forgive me if I'm a bit behind. wink

Re: LOST

The plot pales compared to the psychology (yes Ben is my favorite) and mythology, but it is still fun too.  I basically see the writers/produces/creators of the show as having a captive audience, and now they can preach whatever they want.  Is man inherently bad?  Will good beat evil (or the other way around)?  Can things ever change?  Does it "always end the same way" as according to Jacob's rival?  Why doesn't Richard age?  Stay tuned smile

Re: LOST

Well yeah, the good/evil is probably the most obvious subplot (i.e. all the black/white, as early as the first episode), along with all the Biblical references. I do like that most of the characters are named after Philosophers and the science/math group are all named for somebody in their respective study.

Re: LOST

Ever since I heard the name "Jacob" I got more and more worried that Christianity would dominate.  I mean for crying out loud, a character is named Christian Shephard.  It does seem more broad than that, even though Jacob and Jesus have quite a bit in common (fisherman for one thing).  The Egyptian influence is interesting, and I read some article that the statue is a Sumerian (I think) god.
