Re: The art of the build

The first important thing to note is that the players do the same thing in very different ways.  I only really think of players in terms of where they can slide, and in that case speed is rebounding, and vice versa, it is a closed loop.  A major disadvantage of speed is that the skill points are delayed, so you basically have to have a secondary of rebound/D/blocking.  Considering that the only good bases for speed are short guards, rebounds and blocking make terrible secondaries.  The advantage of speed players is the crazy rebound distribution that it leads to.  If you want to make a triple double player this is essential (to have a speed guy in his line I mean).

Another issue is that the 25% multiplier for speed stacks with nothing else.  This is a minor gripe but worth nothing.  Basically rebounders take secondaries in D or blocking very naturally, and speed players are basically limited to secondary of D without the 25% bonus (ends up costing you around 500-800 sim value).

Someone else who has used speed players a bit more can probably tell you better details.

It all depends on what your team or line-up needs.

Very true.  It is great when a secondary lines up in the same tree as your primary, but it isn't necessary.  Most defenders generally take blocking as a secondary, but really you want to cover wherever your team is weakest.

Re: The art of the build

is there any advantage to having a 3pt shooter with a main in 3pt instead of a 3pt shooter with a BH main slidered into 3pt?

It seems like the latter has many advantages (GR, base of skill tree, etc)

Re: The art of the build

The ability to get to a lvl 7 chem and use GR/WW is very nice, although some people will argue that having a 3pt shooter is better for shooting 3's then a BH.  I'm personally not really convinced either is better, it all depends on the build and what you prefer but I would lean slightly towards a BH just because of the lvl 7 and being in the RP tree.

Re: The art of the build

Yeah that is a great question and answer.  A big difference is in the distribution, as a BH let's everyone shoot 3's, while 3pt shooter hogs them all.  They chem differently too.

You can also consider things like secondaries, and slider coverage.  A BH is better at covering just BH and 3's, because a 3pt shooter slid away also drops some into leadership.  Both work incredibly well in the right situations, but I do love the ability to easily take GR and WW for level 7.

Re: The art of the build

Thanks for the replies.

I was also wondering if a BH 3pt guard needs to chem Ball handling or 3pt. Ie, does the chem apply pre slider or post slider. THanks so much.

Re: The art of the build

All chems are pre-slider, it only matters about your base attribute.

Re: The art of the build

Wow thanks...When I first started here just before season 2 I was on a team that pounded DEF, LEAD, and Speed. After reading this I realized that I got away from that. I capt 4 teams. Rim ROckers, 2010 Suns, Super Villains, and NFL Blitz. Every line-up has a REB and LEAD. Then either a DEF or BLK. BUT I always go EITHER BH or Pass or Lead in the PG slot.
Shoot and 3pt or Dunk and 3pt. Most lines have 2 scorers. I got away from what I tell my daughter every day. Life is all about having BALANCE! All of my teams lack in SPEED more than any. Next most neglected is Ball Hand. I played with sliders trying to make our lines balanced but neglected the 2 above. Will definitely shake things up a bit. Get back to our roots and tweak a little to cover deficiencies. TRY to get away from 2 scorer lines. THANKS

Re: The art of the build

I actually prefer Blocking so I can use tier 3 Def Momentum so it discourages 8% of opponents 3s per block. If this is accurate and you say 3s rule the game...why not reduce that threat any way possible?

Re: The art of the build

Because no one really believes that skill works as advertised...Just like almost all passive skills.

That would be good if the tier 3 skills actually worked.  There is widespread speculation that they do nothing

I've never used that skill, and I'll not use any like it until they are fixed.
