Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

So there is this thread in Jordan, where if your not blowing chek, your a hater, but I'd rather not get involved with that.  So I thought I'd try and come up with a list of players that should be watched for MVP and DPotY.  I do think the MVP should come from a top team so I'm going to list my candidates.

MVP
Mabute Hol averaging 12.8 ppg, 16.3 rpg, and 1.2 bpg.  Oh yeah he's the anchor on the Pwnstars.
Napoleon Snowball averaging 18.2 ppg, 5.2 apg, and 2.5 rpg.  Oh Yeah he's on Bloody Mary.
Stephen Curry averaging 33.2 ppg, 1.5 apg, 1.7 rpg. Strong Cundiff's assassin.
Ready Go averaging 24.9 ppg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 rpg. Impressive considering he shares court time with Anthony Randolph on B4D.
Dominic Toretto 15.8 ppg, 4.2 spg, 1.4 bpg.  The secret weapon of the Boogertown Mudhens.
God Shammgod 8.5 ppg, 8.7 apg. Any night, could go for the hard dub/dub points/assists leader of the Norman Sooners.
Ben Wallace 5.7 ppg, 22.9 rpg, 3.3 apg.  Yeah that's what'd you expect from and International Blend 2.0.
Bladimir Petrovich17.6 ppg, 9 rpg, 1 apg.  My kinda player, leads Crunch Time.
T Man 36.7 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 1.1 spg.  Our highest scorer in the bunch, representing Eggsistential Crisis.

DPotY
Tater Taunt 12.6 rpg, 4.9 bpg, 0.8 spg.  The crazy spud from Pwnstars.
Dennis Rodman 6.1 rpg, 5 spg, 2.2 bpg.  Super defender from Bloody Mary.
Arvydas Pippen 7.8 ppg, 21.7 rpg, 2 apg. A front court terror from Strong Cundiff.
Mason Charles 2.7 rpg, 6.3 bpg, 1.8 apg. The strong arm of B4D.
Yukon Grey 7.6 ppg, 20.0 rpg, 3.5 bpg. Mr. Do everything of Boogertown Mudhens.
PCLoad Letter 11.0 ppg, 19.8 rpg, 1.1 bpg. The big man from Norman Sooners.
Nathaniel Parker Sr. 4.4 ppg, 3.9 apg, 3.0 spg. The blur from International Blend 2.0.
Adonal Foil 5.1 ppg, 12 rpg, 5.7 bpg.  The long arm from Crunch Time.
Defensive Megganism 4.9 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 4.7 spg.  The PITA from Eggsistential Crisis.

These are the candidates I've chosen so far to date.  Note that I took 1 player from each team, not that there isn't more then 1 capable on each team.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

Tater, Rodman and Foil are having monster seasons. DPotY will be a nice race to watch.

MVP is tough. My biased opinion would give it to Mabute Hol. I also like Dominic Toretto and God Shammgod

Thanks for putting this list up. Maybe this will liven up the Bird forums.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

Thats 1 of the problems with Bird.  Everyone is so respectful of each other, there is very little bicker or showboating.  Which is why almost of my players are in Bird.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

DPotY is gonna be awesome to watch!  IMO its a two horse race between Rodman and Foil.  I love Tater, but Rodman is just sick (5.0 SPG, WTF!) right now.  I'd say Rodman, Foil, Tater right now.

MVP comes down to Hol and Torretto for me.  While Shamgod is ohso close to that elusive PPG/AGP dub/dub average (which would cement the MVP for him imo) , Hol and Torretto are flat getting it done.    I have to give the edge to Torretto with the almost 16 points and 4 SPG.  Torretto, Hol, Shamgod for me.  If Torretto drops below 3 SPG though, I think its becomes Hol.  If Shamgod gets the PPG/APG dub/dub average its him no contest.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

DPotY should be a great battle. As you guys have said it'll be a three horse race between Rodman, Foil and Taunt. Foil seems to have cooled down a bit in the last few games (doesn't mean much) but I'd still take him over Taunt, although Taunt is on the top team. Saying that, I just can't go past Rodman because of his crazy numbers.

Regarding the MVP, I think it is wide open.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

I honestly think that DPOY and MVP should come from someone of Bloody Mary or Pwnstars.  No disrespect to the other teams, its just that those 2 teams are just beasts, and have stellar stats to back up their cases.

I do appreciate the mention for Arvydas Pippen smile

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

Speaking as an insider, Bloody Mary is just scary right now.  Tarator came up with a great season strategy, and some of these new skills are pretty kick ass.

And thank you WFUDina for the thread, this is an interesting topic to mull over.  Looking at it from an opposing captain point of view, Steph Curry is the one player I hate trying to plan against.  I never have to plan against Vlad, but since she shares a line up with another scorer, it can be deceiving statistically (similar to Ready Go) how good a player she is.  It also helps that Vlad shares the line up with Adonal Foil.  I think we will see from here throughout the rest of the season, I will speculate that Napoleon will start to show off more, and if he keeps it up will make a very strong case for MVP.

DPOY -- boy, that one is just as tough.  Dennis Rodman would probably get my vote, but everyone on that list has always done well when I have played against them.  It is tough to pick just one or two.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

According to the previous seasons MVPs - MVP will be Mo Striker from Bloody Mary or Gunner Rhea from Pwnstars.

DPOY - Will be a very tough choice to make.... but again depending on previous seasons DPOYs it will be a player that noone expected to become a DPOY smile

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

Speaking for my team: Shammgod, already noted, thanks much. I think PCLoad Letter has a case as well for MVP with 11ppg-20rpg-1bpg-1spg. Re: DPOY, Divac probably ends up with 3+spg and bpg but Rodman tops that easily. Griffin might crack 24 rpg-3bpg.

That's some nice work, but I've never been a fan of PotG script.  I think it vastly rewards points over most other stats.

If you have an idea on how to improve the formula just post it here and I will post the ratings according to it. It will take me about 1 minute to update the ratings if the formula is based on players season stats.

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

Well my idea would be to weight everything.  If an average team score is 110 ppg. base that on 100 scale so
ppg      rpg    apg    bpg  spg

110       65     25      15    10     now figure that to =  x
----      ----   ----    ----   ----                                  ---
100      100  100     100  100                                    1

This way they are all weighted evenly on a 100 point system.
I don't think its fair that points are weighted 1 to 1, given that they are over 100 points per game.
Yet rebounds that there only around 65 a game, should be weighted 1 to .8?  That makes absolutely no sense.
Yet Assists get a bonus of 2.2?  Thats it, I mean an average game has 25-30 assists, that means they only account for 50-60% of the value of a scorer?
Blocks are only valued slightliy more than assists, but how often do you see a player on a balanced team put up more than 8? by this value they'd only account for 20% of what a scorer gets credit for.
Steals are valued 3.5x as much as points, but if the average game only has 10-15 steals, thats only about 50 points of value, compared to 110 points of value, points get.

That's why I would base everything off of a 100 point system.  Take the average team totals for points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and make they average the baseline. I'd throw out Turnovers, if your not to include shooting percentages, I wouldn't include those either.

The idea is make everything standardized

Re: Season 18 MVP DPotY Award Watch

I see your point Soph.

Well I did something similar. I took the averages PPG, APG, RPG, SPG, BPG of the top ten players in PRO-A of each category. Here what the numbers are:

Averages of the top 10 players in Pro A in each category:
PPG - 30.21
APG - 9.08
RPG - 23.12
SPG - 3.89
BPG - 5.13

If I equal those stats then I receive this formula: PPG = 3.33xAPG = 1,31xRPG = 7,77xSPG = 5,13xBPG.

So in ratings point of view 30.21PPG = 9.08APG = 23.12RPG = 3.89SPG = 5.13BPG

And here we go:

formula: rating =  PPG + 3.33xAPG + 1,31xRPG + 7,77xSPG + 5,13xBPG
