Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Hey all,

As I endeavor to improve CR, it's often difficult to make sweeping changes to the game.  My most opportune time to implement new changes coincides with my busiest time of the season- the end of the old season and the beginning of a new season.

In light of this, for the West league next season, we're going to a base 2 format. (20 endurance, 450 total attributes to start).

The caveat?  I plan on rewriting the sim in the West league only for Season 24.  I want to experiment with some things.  Namely-

- Recoding the skill trees so be easier to understand
- Making training more meaningful (aka putting less emphasis off the gaudy % based bonuses of the skill trees and putting more emphasis on training attributes)
- Making coaching sliders not alter attribute values but just alter in game behavior
- Revealing when a skill has worked or "procced" (Gamebreaker, Infinite Range, etc.)
- Adding in some sort of in-game perk system.  For those of you familiar with my other projects, it will be a similar system to the Thrill Town ticket system.  For reaching an objective in a game, you will be rewarded with some sort of redeemable voucher that will boost one of your attributes, reduce training times, etc.

What's In:

* Skills that change the way the game is simmed now state when they have worked in the Recap and play-by-play
* Skills can be reset freely any day of the season.
* Many skills have been dramatically retooled and reworked.
* The sim has many hooks in place to now post feedback when a certain skill has triggered.  This should make it easier for players to identify the skills they feel are helping them achieve their goals
* Coaching sliders have been redesigned.  They no longer shift attributes around in the sim but instead adjust when certain events in the sim happen.  For example, the take chances on defense slider increases your chances of generating a block or steal (and pairs nicely with the Stopper skill!).  Playing conservative on defense, however, makes you more likely to draw offensive fouls because you're in better position.  These are the scenarios I wish coaching sliders to effect.
* Offensive fouls now indicate who drew them
* Chemistries and specialties now award a flat +20 to an attribute per level.  I was never a big fan of the stacking multiplicative bonuses.
* Each attribute point is worth more than the prior (aka attribute strength now scales exponentially in the sim and not linearly).  Even though you're training from 202-203 Shooting, that one point is worth more than training from 30-31 shooting.

Bug Fix Log!:

March 28th
* The Pure Athlete skill should now work in the West league
* Allocations should now function properly again

March 22ndt
* 3 point shots shouldn't be taken by people with 100% take less 3's.  For real this time!

March 21st
* The recap was showing that the Supreme Disher skill had proc-ed when it, in fact, had not.  This has been corrected.
* Players were taking 3 point shots (and always missing them, imagine that!) that had no business taking 3 pointers.

March 19th
* Box scores should now be working again properly.  The sim should now behave more "normal"

Again, please be patient with this process.  It's a *lot* of work and I'm sure the initial results will likely be laughable smile  With enough tweaking, however, we'll get them to a happy place.

Obviously that's an ambitious slate.  I can't promise all that stuff, but I am looking forward to actively carving up the sim and having fun with things.

For those of you that may be annoyed at this, please keep in mind that the West league was launched as a *beta* league in which wacky stuff would be experimented with.  Well, this is wacky.  With other leagues now being a single player credit per season, I feel more comfortable with encouraging users to manage players in Jordan/Classic if they want a stable/no-bugs league.

Some days will see no changes while other days will see many changes.  I expect this to be relatively fluid so your patience is appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Kaz!

Sounds very fun that there will be a completely new sim.  Since season 24 of the West league will be a beta to test out the sim changes, it'll benefits anyone who participates as they'll have a head start in learning the intricacies of the new sim.

I like this a lot. Thanks Kaz.

Based on past history, I expect the new West sim to be buggy as hell, but I like the fresh ideas--I think they would make the game much better if implemented correctly.

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Hopefully by playoff time we'll have something assembling a sim that's at least a candidate to implement in other leagues.  I will try to at least have *one* stable SIM build out nightly.

I will offer free skill resets, too, at some point.  So you can tweak stuff from game to game.

Again, it's a massive undertaking, but given the time and the fact that the league has a giant "*TEST*" flag on it should helm eliminate any stress I feel to make sure things are picture perfect.

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Great news Kaz, let's use West as a TEST league, perhaps the season can be 15 days long instead?  lol

If sliders would actually affect in game behavior instead of just moving skill points, that would make the game worth playing.

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Updated original post. Skill resets are free in League 4 on any day of the season (or should be).  Please keep in mind that I won't put in any work on the new sim until tomorrow, so don't be alarmed when things look "the same" after the rollback.  I have other issues to address first before I punch out work on the new sim.
