Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Kaz, good to see you thinking and working at this.

I would suggest replacing the skill tree as it is with something easier and more cleaner. Right now it still looks like a huge mess. I can imagine you like the small icons and probably the design of the skill tree, but maybe something different would be more useful.

I would get rid of the three different parts and would just go by different tiers. First tier are skills directly effecting the attributes and the 2nd tier the other stuff. Make those accessable right from the beginning and manage the balance via the bonuses.
You should also really think about taking out the specialist skills and give each user the choice via Gym Page which kind of player they want to build. They can choose between different type of players like Defensive or Offensive specialist. You can give them a bonus either via sim values or easier training for example. That would give you a much wider spectrum for player builds. Maybe you can connect that with the proficiencies.

On another note: I know I was able to build great players, but my West players are killing it. They were the best of the best in Pro according to their accomplishments. 8 of my West players got the accomplisments for Pro Scoring, Pro Rebounding, Pro Assists, Pro Blocking and Pro Steals within a couple of days. You should really check the accomplishment system, because it is obviously not working properly. And the game is mostly about stats and accomplishments, thus it should work correctly and is a major issue right now.

I redid the triple threat, total coverage, and fundamentals skills to capture the functionality of the old coaching sliders.

Me too..,
Also, when are we going to get skill point options in the first tier for 3pt and speed players?

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Maybe you could implement something like this:
I dont really know how to explain this, but here is an example:
Let's say I'm a 500 point defender, and I currently have 3 skill points in total coverage. Maybe once I get my defense to 100 I get another skill point, but it automatically is placed in the skill that increases that attribute the most. So then if I had 130 in defense I would have 4 blanket defenders.

I know this would have to change the maximum amount of skill points in some cases, but I know it's something the CR community has been talking about through a few seasons.

This is URBs idea that i thought I would bring to your attention:

Yea that would work. Maybe it could be that you have to put it in a first tier skill or something, just to not give quite as much value as a normal skill point

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

West sim ran a bit late today due to some compiling errors.

Just ran it now (8:23 ET) ... Gonna backtime some of the games.

Please keep in mind you may see weird text like {{PB}} in the recaps.  This is intentional as it represents when a skill has procced.

I have to recode some of the viewRecap pages and the play by play pages so that this displays more gracefully smile

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

Thanks, does this explain why the games weren't on premium users scoreboards?

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

West league games, yes.

Classic and Jordan should have went off without a hitch (the two use two different sims now, don't forget!)

{{}} jump shot: made (75 PTS)

This is what it looks like for the scoring..........but none of the actual players on the teams are scoring at all

No defensive rebound at all. If the team won't score it will be a steal smile hahaha

Ok, yeah, I changed quite a bit.  There's only so much work you can do in a day.

Goes to show you a sim isn't written in 24 hours.  Let me fix some of the big old pot holes smile

Re: Season 24 West League Rules aka Total Chaos

So apparently $defReb and $defRebound are not the same variable.

These are the sort of errors one makes when they spend too much time coding smile

I think tomorrow we should see player names be recorded (for a change) and defensive rebounds being registered.

If not I'll do some more extensive debugging.

thekaz since you do the coding and stuff would a team with just rebounders blockers and defenders be successful?

Kaz can't answer this because it depends how you build them.

It's possible if you took the skills associated with those abilities.  Although this sort of build is untested because it's unconvential and no one can see when and if the skills that affect your scoring chances work.

I'm hoping that if I give additional feedback regarding that (when your skills work), it will encourage people to try different builds (that are now considered radical)

--edit--

I will add that without skills that increase your scoring chances after a steal, block, etc. a build where all team members focus on 3 attributes wouldn't work.
